I’ve almost recovered from obsessing over our numerous cable channels and my rekindled love affair with mtv, discovery channel and the lifestyle network but that did not stop me from buying that coveted TV for our bedroom!

I found a second hand tv selling for $80 and we particularly chose this seller because he’s staying near our house. I didn’t see the photo but I knew it was a 29″ Sony Wega flat TV. When I saw the tv in person, it was humongous!!! The first thought that occured to me was  – this wouldn’t fit on top of our TV stand, and even if it did, it’s too darn heavy for it! It’s a flat screen alright but the back, THE BACK, it’s jurassic! Hello 90s TV!

On the other hand, the current tv in our living room is a 21″ flat screen (really flat, 20th century TV!) which looked a little too small for the TV stand and the entire living room itself so the only sensible solution is to switch the TVs haha!

there's our $80 TV!

The cable guys are coming today to install another set top box so I’ll be able to watch (and surf on my lappy) this afternoon!

the "real" flat screen tv!!

it fits our tv stand perfectly!

Thanks to our housemate for allowing the “switch”! Now, where are those cable tv guys? They should be here by now!

So it’s already a known fact that my entire family came with us here in Singapore after our 2 week vacation in the Philippines. Right after they went home, I had to deal with the task of searching for a new flat since our contract in our current flat is about to expire and we wanted to look for a nicer flat even though it meant we had to pay more (ouch!). I only had a week to search for a reasonably priced flat and the fact that Chinese New Year is approaching didn’t make house hunting any easier. Just like 2 years ago, I was again calling and sending countless sms to agents, searching for nice HDB flats, checking street directory and the most troublesome of all, house viewing!

It would’ve been easier if agents would just post the photos of the house so we can decide whether we personally want to view it or not, but no, most agent don’t do that. Right after work, we would go to different locations for house viewing. We were lucky to find a nice flat and the price is not so bad.

I am now recuperating (yes recuperating is the word, it’s that intense!) from post traumatic stress disorder the chaos of wedding preparations, Philippines visit, family vacation, house moving and headaches caused by our house agent! I will not rant on how the house is not clean when we moved in, the air conditioning units were not serviced, the washing machine is not working and the bidets are leaking. Instead, I will just focus on our neat and spacious flat, the cool breeze from the 10th floor, how much closet space I have, our nice toilet in the masters bedroom and our clean kitchen. 🙂

Our Singtel Mio TV contract has expired and we switched to Starhub! We have so many channels, I was overwhelmed so I ask my husband if we could buy a tv and he said yes. He didn’t really have a choice, really.

Is it too late to write down new year’s resolutions? I guess not, Chinese new year  just ended a few days ago. And even if it is, so what, this is my blog, I can write new year’s resolutions even if it’s not new year 🙂 So to reiterate my fondness for making lists, here it goes:

1. Blog more often – I have slacked off with my blogging during the past years and I want to actively blog again and gain back readers (not that I had many readers before, but I had a fair share of readers ok). I realized my head is about to explode with thoughts, ideas and whatnots and figured I really need to get stuff out of my head and now I’m back to good old blogging. I just really need to brush up on my html/CSS/photoshop to make a decent layout.

2. Invest – right after our church wedding we are planning to buy this little parcel of land in a really nice subdivision. No details yet as we’re not even sure if we could afford if but I’m pretty positive it’ll happen. It’s now or never haha! I could already imagine myself obsessing over design books and magazines when that time comes that we are about to build our dream home! Just the thought of it really excites me even though it’s a long way to go!

3. Read – yup my Christmas wish came true, my technologically challenged, non-online shopper, easily confused by intimidating websites husband decided to give in to my “parining” christmas gift wish and bravely ordered a kindle on amazon! Way to go hon! His first ever online purchase was a milestone, an achievement haha! I’ve created an account on and desperately tried to recall all the books that I’ve read (to no avail, thanks to my unreliable memory) so I can add it to my list. I want to document all the books that I read and I want to start reading books again! Kindle just made it more convenient for me (and cheaper). My target this year is to read 50 books and at the phase I am going, I can do it!

4. Be passionate (at least about something) – passion is one of the key factors that drive success (at least for me!) and this is the thing that I lack (no wonder I am not successful). I have so many interests and things that I want to do, but the thing is, there’s not enough passion for me to focus on single thing. I want to bake and decorate cakes, to design graphics and websites, to interior decorate, to write, to create witty and amazing ads, to take decent photos, and so much more. I’m all over the place and I just need focus. I can’t learn all those things at a time. I have to figure it out.

5. Keep a journal – I want to start keeping a journal again, to write down my thoughts, ideas and to do lists! I’m eyeing the nice journals at kikki K.

6. Diss the junk – and exercise! I really need to start doing this!!

I was busy surfing the net this afternoon until I heard heavy banging on our door! I immediately knew that it’s the postman because I was expecting a package today. I’ts no secret that love receiving packages and snail mails 🙂

My kindle cover has finally arrived!! Yay!

I had a hard time looking for kindle covers locally since the kindle is not sold locally (except for a few online stores that ships kindle here) but good thing my googling skills are far from mediocre so I was able to find a local online seller that sells affordable (about $12) kindle cover! I wanted the red color but they didn’t have stock so I had to wait for a couple of days before it was sent to me. I considered getting the pink cover since they had it on hand but decided baby pink is really not my style! I’m more of a hot pink kind of girl, really!!

I love my kindle as well as my new cover! I can now bring my kindle to work! I also figured out how to be able to download kindle books from outside the US. I’m now subscribed to Amazon Prime 1 month trial so I was able to borrow books for free. Yay!

I kinda miss the smell and feel of real books but what the heck – this is a cheaper (and greener!) alternative to reading books. Now I just need a night light! 🙂

To say everyone was super excited is an understatement! This was the first out of the country experience for our family and everyone was ecstatic! It was also the first time for my three younger siblings to ride a plane and we were a group of nine leaving the country for Singapore for the first time so I expected it would be a little chaotic going thru the check-in counters, travel tax payment and immigration. My dad even went on an unnecessary semi panic mode so we asked him to breathe in and breathe out and from there I took charge. I was their semi know it all tour guide LOL!

My family will only stay in Singapore for three days and three nights so we had to strategically plan their itinerary. We arrived at around four in the afternoon so after a few hours of rest, off we went to see the must visit for first time Singapore visitors – The merlion and Esplanade. Seafood dinner at Makansutra is also a must!

Just seeing this photo makes me really hungry.

hello merlion!

thank you trustry tripod!

The following day is my mother’s 50th birthday and we all decided to celebrate it at Universal Studios! This was the highlight of the trip! 🙂

Mami’s birthday dinner was at Marche. We knew we would go way beyond our budget (and would end up with a lot of food wastage) if we would let everyone choose their own food and swipe their own cards so we gathered everyone’s card and ordered for everyone instead.

happy 50th mother!!! more to come 🙂

I had to work the following day and I wasn’t able to join them at Jurong Bird Park, so no photos 🙂 Their flight on their last day is at 8pm so they had plenty of time to buy pasalubong at Mstafa, Bugis and China Town. I was able to join them for lunch (thanks to my boss for allowing me to take the half day off) and take them to the airport!

We are now planning (or dreaming) of our next out of the country family trip! But I don’t think it will be too soon since we have a lot of stuff to prioritize and pay (wedding, moving house, etc)!

For lack of better things to post, I am doing a what’s in your bag entry since I cleaned my closet this weekend and tried to free my bag from unnecessary clutter.

what's in there??

But first a little story about the bag. This is the bag that I use for work every day. I change bags on weekends when I go out but this is the bag that I use for work. I found this bag one fine day inside my closet. My husband bought it for me and he surprises me on regular days just like that. 🙂 I forgot the brand though! Let’s take a peek into the mess inside shall we?

pardon the bad photo!!

1. MAC NC40 face powder – my daily essential! I only use it in the morning though before I leave the house. Once I’m in the office, I can’t be bothered to touch up my make-up because a) I don’t really get that oily and b) it’s a waste of make-up to pretify for the office (at least in our office hehe)

2. Ever bilena lip tint – cheap and it works! I don’t want to use lipstick on a daily basis so I wear lip tint. My mom actually sent me four bottles of these and when my colleague saw me use this, she asked where I bought it. The following day I gave her one bottle so now I’m left with three more. I think one bottle will be good for a year’s use so yeah I hope the expiry is until 2014!!

3. Daiso blush-on – yet another cheapo make-up for my everyday use! I got this for $2 from Daiso and it’s pigmented and doesn’t break me out!

4. Revlon concealer – I don’t really use this as often, just when I have pimple marks. I’ve had this for quite some time now and I’m actually on the look out for a good replacement.

5. House keys & office tap key – I like my kenneth cole key chain which I got for free when I signed up for my credit card couple of years ago.

6. Credit card safety device – I just have to keep this in my bag or else I will lose it! My first one just stopped functioning one day and if I remember correctly, I had to pay Php500 for a replacement!!

7. Cotton-on umbrella – my cheapo umbrella! I recently lost my ever reliable umbrella that I bought from SM last year so I had to use this one. I seriously need to buy a  new one! I’ve been eyeing those umbrellas from Esprit.

8. M1 hand phone bill – I have to keep this in my bag until payday or else I will forget to pay my bill despite the SMS reminder haha!

9. Coin purse – My colleage gave this to me after she came back from Thailand. I use it whenever I go out for lunch at the kopitiam so I don’t need to bring my bulky wallet with me.

10. Victoria’s secret cologne – ha! I thought of just using this to spray on our bedroom pillows but I thought my husband wouldn’t like it. This was stored in my closet for the longest time until one day I ran out of perfume and was lazy to buy a new so I had to resort to using this. I decided I’ll finish the bottle since I only use it for the office anyway!

11. Passport – I bought the passport holder in one of those novelty stores in Tampines Mall and the design encourages me to travel more! I actually wanted a more chic passport holder but it was darn expensive so for the meantime, this will do! I need to get more chops!!

12. Roxy eyeglass – My eyeglass is Roxy but the case is crocs! Yes the retro feel kikay case is from crocs and used to belong to our guy friend slash housemate. He recently bought a new pair of Crocs specs and when it was time to pick-up his new specs, the sales lady handed him this case. He sure didn’t know if he’s wanted to laugh or cry haha! My case was a plain white dull looking case which I thought he would prefer so I offered to do a swap.

13. Wallet – Yet another gift from my husband. There were actually two wallets, one is still sitting in my closet unused and it’s been almost a year.

14. Vaseline – This is an essential for my chapped lips hehe. I have yet to find a lip balm that I like and works but not until I finish this bottle.

15. Keychain – One of my bosses gave this to me after their trip to Penang, Malaysia. I haven’t had the chance to remove it from my bag eversince!

16. Tissue – My cheap tissue from Fair Price. One of my essentials!

17. Card holder – I got this from Daiso! I used to dislike red but now I’m starting to really like it! Even my Iphone case is red! This is where I keep my EZ Link card, membership cards (cinema, ktv, etc) and sometimes my credit card and ATM.

18. Comb – I only use this in the morning before I leave for work. Just like touching up, I can’t be bothered to comb my hair once I’m in the office. Even on weekends, I only use it once a day. I sometimes use my fingers to com my hair in the day hehe.

My Iphone was not in this photo because it wasn’t in my bag but it’s usually there.

None other than Daiso! I get ecstatic when I step into Daiso stores. It’s full of useful and useless cute stuff that at $2 you just can’t resist!

We went to process our papers for something-i-cannot-disclose-here a few weeks ago and we were a tad too early. Our appointment is scheduled at 8:30am and we were there before the scheduled time and since almost everything here is efficient, the processing only took about less than half an hour. My husband took the half day off so we had extra time in our hands before lunch and before he goes off for work so I suggested we check out Daiso and Spotlight. We didn’t find anything at spotlight since the craft materials there are so expensive so off we went to Daiso. My senses just explode whenever I go to Daiso. We strategize our shopping experience by browsing thru all the stuff aisle by aisle. Daiso is one of those stores wherein you don’t really plan on buying anything but ends up buying something anyway. And that’s exactly what happened to us.

So here are our Daiso finds. Please ignore our pink polka dot bed sheet in the background.

his and hers vinyl slippers

When we saw these, we knew it’s time for our chinese new year bedroom slippers we bought at Ikea last year to retire. They aesthetically don’t look good but they’re perfect for the bedroom. I was dead set on having navy blue for my slipper and my husband will take the black one but good thing I noticed the cream colored slippers, it’s more feminine isn’t it?

tiny pan 🙂

Ok this frying pan is one of those things that you actually don’t need but buys it anyway because it’s cute! It’s almost the size of a saucer plate and I thought it’d be nice to fry eggs in it haha! Turns out not. It ain’t non-stick at all. $2 wasted!!

something for the leg :p

My husband constantly has muscle pains, leg pains, all sorts of body pains sans I have now mastered the art of massage. I don’t know what’s this for but he says it works, so be it.

for my chubby cheeks!

One day, one of my colleagues asked what food do I eat? I was like, “what food do I eat?”. Apparently, she meant what food do I eat to make my cheeks pinkish? And that made me laugh like a mad person. She thought I eat lots of super healthy (tomatoes perhaps?) food that make my cheeks flush! I actually ran out of blush-on so I was excited and a little bit hesitant when I saw these. I couldn’t exactly read the label but what the heck? If  develop pimples then I’ll stop using it but thank heavens I didn’t have any so I am continuing to use these as my cheap daily blush.

yay for my hammer eyelet set!

This has got to be my favorite find for the day!! I was actually looking for eyelet puncher to use for our wedding invites but we chanced upon this hammer eyelet set and thought why not give it a try! We tried it at home and it works! Yay!!
