Monthly Archives: February 2012

I’ve almost recovered from obsessing over our numerous cable channels and my rekindled love affair with mtv, discovery channel and the lifestyle network but that did not stop me from buying that coveted TV for our bedroom!

I found a second hand tv selling for $80 and we particularly chose this seller because he’s staying near our house. I didn’t see the photo but I knew it was a 29″ Sony Wega flat TV. When I saw the tv in person, it was humongous!!! The first thought that occured to me was  – this wouldn’t fit on top of our TV stand, and even if it did, it’s too darn heavy for it! It’s a flat screen alright but the back, THE BACK, it’s jurassic! Hello 90s TV!

On the other hand, the current tv in our living room is a 21″ flat screen (really flat, 20th century TV!) which looked a little too small for the TV stand and the entire living room itself so the only sensible solution is to switch the TVs haha!

there's our $80 TV!

The cable guys are coming today to install another set top box so I’ll be able to watch (and surf on my lappy) this afternoon!

the "real" flat screen tv!!

it fits our tv stand perfectly!

Thanks to our housemate for allowing the “switch”! Now, where are those cable tv guys? They should be here by now!

So it’s already a known fact that my entire family came with us here in Singapore after our 2 week vacation in the Philippines. Right after they went home, I had to deal with the task of searching for a new flat since our contract in our current flat is about to expire and we wanted to look for a nicer flat even though it meant we had to pay more (ouch!). I only had a week to search for a reasonably priced flat and the fact that Chinese New Year is approaching didn’t make house hunting any easier. Just like 2 years ago, I was again calling and sending countless sms to agents, searching for nice HDB flats, checking street directory and the most troublesome of all, house viewing!

It would’ve been easier if agents would just post the photos of the house so we can decide whether we personally want to view it or not, but no, most agent don’t do that. Right after work, we would go to different locations for house viewing. We were lucky to find a nice flat and the price is not so bad.

I am now recuperating (yes recuperating is the word, it’s that intense!) from post traumatic stress disorder the chaos of wedding preparations, Philippines visit, family vacation, house moving and headaches caused by our house agent! I will not rant on how the house is not clean when we moved in, the air conditioning units were not serviced, the washing machine is not working and the bidets are leaking. Instead, I will just focus on our neat and spacious flat, the cool breeze from the 10th floor, how much closet space I have, our nice toilet in the masters bedroom and our clean kitchen. 🙂

Our Singtel Mio TV contract has expired and we switched to Starhub! We have so many channels, I was overwhelmed so I ask my husband if we could buy a tv and he said yes. He didn’t really have a choice, really.

Is it too late to write down new year’s resolutions? I guess not, Chinese new year  just ended a few days ago. And even if it is, so what, this is my blog, I can write new year’s resolutions even if it’s not new year 🙂 So to reiterate my fondness for making lists, here it goes:

1. Blog more often – I have slacked off with my blogging during the past years and I want to actively blog again and gain back readers (not that I had many readers before, but I had a fair share of readers ok). I realized my head is about to explode with thoughts, ideas and whatnots and figured I really need to get stuff out of my head and now I’m back to good old blogging. I just really need to brush up on my html/CSS/photoshop to make a decent layout.

2. Invest – right after our church wedding we are planning to buy this little parcel of land in a really nice subdivision. No details yet as we’re not even sure if we could afford if but I’m pretty positive it’ll happen. It’s now or never haha! I could already imagine myself obsessing over design books and magazines when that time comes that we are about to build our dream home! Just the thought of it really excites me even though it’s a long way to go!

3. Read – yup my Christmas wish came true, my technologically challenged, non-online shopper, easily confused by intimidating websites husband decided to give in to my “parining” christmas gift wish and bravely ordered a kindle on amazon! Way to go hon! His first ever online purchase was a milestone, an achievement haha! I’ve created an account on goodreads.com and desperately tried to recall all the books that I’ve read (to no avail, thanks to my unreliable memory) so I can add it to my list. I want to document all the books that I read and I want to start reading books again! Kindle just made it more convenient for me (and cheaper). My target this year is to read 50 books and at the phase I am going, I can do it!

4. Be passionate (at least about something) – passion is one of the key factors that drive success (at least for me!) and this is the thing that I lack (no wonder I am not successful). I have so many interests and things that I want to do, but the thing is, there’s not enough passion for me to focus on single thing. I want to bake and decorate cakes, to design graphics and websites, to interior decorate, to write, to create witty and amazing ads, to take decent photos, and so much more. I’m all over the place and I just need focus. I can’t learn all those things at a time. I have to figure it out.

5. Keep a journal – I want to start keeping a journal again, to write down my thoughts, ideas and to do lists! I’m eyeing the nice journals at kikki K.

6. Diss the junk – and exercise! I really need to start doing this!!

I always say “it’s a psychological error” whenever somebody finds out that I don’t eat carrots. I don’t eat lettuce and coleslaw but I eat them when they’re in my burgers. I don’t eat carrot but I drink carrot juice and eat carrot cake. Actually, the number of vegetables that I actually eat can be counted using one hand! I have a hate-hate relationship with veggies.

I was browsing the internet the other day and I came across an article on “picky eaters”, it got me reading since I am a picky eater! I’ve drastically improved over the years but it was really horrible when I was younger. As I read the article, turns out my joke about my picky eating behavior is indeed psychological after all! And it also turns out that there’s this thing called “selective eating disorder” which I may have suffered at one point in my life!

I didn’t eat “bistek” when I was younger until I was about to graduate college and now I realized the root cause! There was this one time that my mom cooked bistek and my dad scared me by saying it’s “carabao” and not beef so I never ate bistek again, ever! I asked my mom about the carabao thing and she said she never cooks carabao! Thanks dad for ruining bistek for me lol!

When the time comes that we’ll have kids, I’ve decided that it will be my husband’s duty to make sure our kids are not picky eaters and that they will eat veggies (my husband doesn’t eat vegetables and he should lead them by example)!
